How we check facts

Every fact on Firstspan comes from an official source, links to it, and shows the date we last checked it. We summarise and reformat; we don't give advice of our own.

Where our facts come from

We use the pages that government agencies and public hospitals publish, including:

• MSF and LifeSG (Baby Bonus, the SG Child Support Package, the Child Development Account)
• MOH and CPF (MediSave, hospital bills)
• ECDA (preschool fees and subsidies)
• MOM (leave)
• ICA (birth registration, citizenship, passports)
• IRAS (tax reliefs)

News articles and forums can point us to a change, but they are never the source for a number.

How each item is checked

1. We find the official page for the rule, amount or deadline.
2. We write a short summary in plain English and link to that page. We don't copy tables or wording.
3. We compare our summary with the page, and record the date of that check next to the item.
4. If a detail isn't published yet, the item is labelled "Not yet confirmed" and says what is missing. If we couldn't check an item at all, it's labelled "Not yet checked". We never fill a gap with a guess.

Right now, 53 of the 53 items in the money tool are checked against their sources, and 9 have a detail marked "Not yet confirmed". The last full check was on 29 Sept 2026.

How often we re-check

• Every month, we re-check the page behind every item.
• We also re-check after each Budget (February) and each National Day Rally (August), when rules often change.
• An item not checked for 6 months is labelled "Check overdue".
• A re-check that finds no change updates the check date only. The "last changed" date on a page moves only when the facts or wording change.

When sources disagree, or rules are simplified

If two official sources disagree, we show both and say so. Where we simplify a rule to make the tool work, we say so next to it. For example, the tool treats a child born in Singapore with a Singapore Citizen parent as a citizen; ICA decides in real cases.

Who does the work

Firstspan is run by one founder in Singapore. We use AI tools to help research, draft and cross-check. Each item is checked against its official source before it's published. No clinician or lawyer has reviewed the site yet, and we won't say they have until it's true.

We publish no health information of our own. For health questions, go to HealthHub or KKH, or ask your doctor. In an emergency, call 995.
